Description: |
The olduz or star is a favorite of the Shahsavan weaver.
In this early and exemplary example, excellence is achieved because the weaver successfully combined color harmony with design unity.
The colors are from natural dye sources; they are clear, strong and deeply saturated.
It is, however, the skillful juxtaposition of these colors that elevate the aesthetic quality of this work.
In Khamseh weaving a design element in its base form or a variation thereof often recurs in the field and borders.
In this weaving, the integration of motif recurrence and color placement create the desired sense of design unity.
The border features star motifs. These stars recur within the diamond lattices of the field.
Large, serrated stars, a variation of the base form, also appear in the field lattices.
The field has a rarely encountered interpretation of the diamond lattice.
The size of these diamonds gives the perception of height to the field composition while design recurrence provides the sense of unity.
