Title:

Uzbek Napramach
Uzbekistan

Size:

18” x 45”

Circa:
1880
Cat. #:
346
Description:

Consistent with Uzbek tradition, the border of this napramach is narrow in dimension and simple in design.

It consists of two main stripes.

One displays ‘S’ in alternating shades of ivory, indigo and yellow.

The second consists of alternating ‘V’ shapes in madder and indigo.

These borders are framed by red and ivory box forms.

The basic field design of the typical Uzbek napramach consists of repeat rhombus decorated with kuchkorak devises.

Here, there is a dramatic departure from the norm, inspired perhaps by ikat patterning.

It consists of connected diamond forms on a vertical repeat with half-kaikalak motif inserted between the diamonds.

The colors are from natural dye sources.

Condition: The condition is generally apparent. There are areas of moth damage and wear to the surviving plain weave end. An old crocheted tribal repair was removed and the area was repiled.
