Description:

This rug was woven in the village of Vordoveh in the west Persian province of Hamadan.

The field design is a classic one and probably one of the easiest to identify in the entire ‘rug world’.

The format of the dominant medallion complex is reminiscent of those woven by neighboring Kurdish weavers and is a significant marker for attribution purposes.

Other distinguishing features of Vordoveh village rugs are the camel-colored ground and the use of a mid-green as a subsidiary color.

On this rug, the camel colored ground is decorated with small diamond forms, creating a ‘honey-comb’ lattice appearance.

The green has developed an attractive patina associated with rugs of some age.
