Hamadan Region, West Persia

Circa 1930
Cat. No.

316

Description

Rugs woven in the village of Mehreban are among the finest Hamadan region rugs of the pre-WW2 period.

The wool utilized was of consistently superior quality to most other Hamadan rugs.

The high lanolin content of this wool better absorbed the dyes.

This produced rugs with outstanding color quality, a deeply saturated tonality and a stately appearance.

Frequently, the wool or cotton was hand-spun within the family unit.

The palette of Mehreban tends to be readily identifiable and include a coral or coral-red, a light to middle range of blue and a distinct, mellow green. A rich indigo tends to predominate for the field.

Condition: Excellent. The pile is full with no areas of wear or damage.
