Description:

In his book, Shahsavan, rug scholar and writer Parviz Tanavoli, divided all Shahsavan motifs into four primary groups, each group named for its basic motif.

Both the field and main border motifs of this bag face belong to Tanavoli's Group #1: Olduz, or Star.

In the field and main border, one sees variants of diamond-shaped stars and comb-shaped stars.

These motifs are based on the 'star' and numerous variations of that basic motif.

The motifs of this group constitute one of the most popular designs that recur in Shahsavan khorjins (bag faces) and mafrash weavings.

This piece has a wide range of strong, deeply saturated colors. All colors are from natural dye sources.
