This rug was woven in the village of Vordoveh in the Hamadan Province of West Persia. The design is classic and probably the easiest to identify in the entire ‘rug world’.
The format of the dominant medallion complex is reminiscent of those woven by neighboring Kurdish weavers and is a significant marker for attribution purposes.
However, distinguishing features of Vordoveh village rugs are the camel-colored ground and the use of a mid-green as a subsidiary color.
In this example the mid-green is used very effectively in the main border, central medallion and in small accent motifs in the camel field.
Condition: Excellent. The pile is full. There is no wear or damage. The bottom end is reduced slightly but has been stabilized to prevent further pile loss. |
