Description

This is a rug woven in the village of Vordoveh in the Hamadan Province of West Persia. The design is one of the easiest to recognize in the entire Orient. The dominant medallion is reminiscent of those woven by neighboring Kurdish weavers. However, the distinctive features of Vordoveh village rugs are the camel-colored ground and the use of a very noticeable mid-green shade as one of the subsidiary colors. In this example, the green is effectively used in the main border, the central medallion and the smaller accent motifs in the camel field.
