Description:

Rug production on the Ferahan plain in the Ark District of west central Persia was of two distinct types. There was a significant volume of large, commercial grade carpets of modesty quality and there were smaller, finer quality furnishing rugs. This is a well-preserved example of the latter.

The rug is a carefully planned and finely drawn weaving with smooth corner articulation and an excellent rendering of the tradition Ferahan central medallion. This medallion is played on a rich, glowing indigo field. There are tiny cross motif at the base of the arrowhead portions of the medallion.

The colors are strong yet their mellow tonality creates a visually calming experience for the viewer.
