Description

This piece is a unique and intriguing rug. Historically and ethnographically important because it constitutes the essence of Luri tribal weaving of the highest quality. Wonderful wool, deeply saturated colors and primitive yet enchanting design execution. A litany of Luri design constructs are whimsically distributed across its white field. This technique permits the imaginative observer to re-interpret the composition with each successive viewing. The result is tribal art at its finest.

Condition: Full pile. No moth damage, no areas of wear, no wear creases. There is approximately three inches of end kilim intact and in good condition. There are scattered areas of good quality re-piling.

Structure
 
Warps:
Wool. Dark brown, ivory, brown and ivory plied together. Z-spun, S-plied.
 
 
Wefts:
Wool. Dyed red. Two shoots.
 
 
Knots:
Symmetrical.
 
 
Sides:
Five warps are bundled overcast in red and green wool.
 
 
Ends:
Flat weave.
