Description:

The brilliant colors identify this balisht as being from the Sistan region. A blue diamond lattice is presented on a rich cherry-red field.

Within each lattice are diamond motifs.  Each diamond has a variety of the colors in shades traditionally associated with Sistan weaving.

The back is original to the piece.

All the colors are from natural dye sources.

Condition: This piece is essentially a large fragment.  Most of the damage and pile loss are on the sides.  The surviving pile is, however, in good condition.  There is oxidation to the brown.

Warps:
Wool, natural shades of brown.  There is no warp displacement (depression).
 
Wefts:
Wool, natural dark brown.  There are two-three wefts between each row of knots.

Asymmetrical inclined to the left.
