This piece
is the surviving end panel of a bedding bag woven in the Transcaucasus
in the late 19th century. Many of these bedding bags were
woven by Armenians. In this example, deep red hexagons are
connected on a white ground by smaller indigo hexagons. These
contain reciprocal crablike motifs. The weave is extremely
fine with highly saturated colors and strong contracting white
from the undyed cotton.
Condition:
Good. One small area of minor wear, otherwise the state of
preservation is very good.
