Description:

Knowledge of the weavings of the Qaradaghi tribes is sparse. The tribes’ material culture is quite similar to that of the neighboring Shahsavan. Many of their sumac bags are frequently mistaken for those of the           Shahsavan.

There are six Turkic-speaking tribes that inhabit the mountainous are of Qaradagh.  Five of the tribes are probably Kurdish. This example is a relatively rare and very well preserved end panel from what was probably a bedding bag.

The skillfully executed border design is extremely rare, with few, if any, comparable examples in the rug literature.

The weave is quite fine and the palette consists of a significant range of rich, deeply saturated colors.

Condition:  Excellent.  There are isolated areas of high quality repair.

Price:
$3,000
