Where is the Price?
Like many others, I was a collector before I became a dealer. In those days, most of us had to travel some distance to get to the dealer. The gallery was usually quite impressive; almost like a holy place. One was inclined to speak in hushed tones. The rugs, frequently displayed on the gallery walls under perfect lighting, were beautiful and certainly appeared to be of some age. But something was missing.
Oh, yes, the prices were missing. I always wondered ‘why’? But strangely, or perhaps not so strangely, I was always reluctant to ask ‘why’.
Logic suggests that the dealer:
(a) Simply forgot to post the prices,
(b) Purposefully failed to do so because it helps the customer, or
(c) Purposefully failed to do so because it is helps the dealer.
I post the prices on all items offered for sale on the Herat Gallery web-site. From visitor response, my decision to do so is greatly appreciated. It shall continue to be my policy.
On occasion, I post items on Rug Rabbit. On occasion, rather than post the sale price, I say that the ‘price is available on request’. You’ll see the letters ‘p.o.r.’ No, I did not forget to post the price.
Rather, the reasons are (b) and (c).
If, on Rug Rabbit, you see something of mine that is interesting and the price says ‘por’, email me and we’ll discuss it.
Think (b) and (c) above! |
