About Herat
Continuing A Family Tradition
Although born into a family of old world
Oriental rug dealers, my first, direct involvement with
rugs was as a collector. I was initially drawn to the work
of the Baluch and the tribal weavings of South Persia, especially
those of the Afshari. Over time, my interests evolved and
expanded to include Turkish village rugs and some of the
more primitive weavings of non-Turkmen, Central Asian peoples.
It was perhaps foreseeable that the Herat collection consists
almost exclusively of old and antique tribal weavings of
the type I treasured as a collector. Selection is determined
by rarity, color, quality and aesthetic merit. Condition
is a consideration but does not dictate whether a piece
will be included in the collection. The goal is to consistently
bring together a broad selection of unique, beautiful and
historically important carpets and textiles.
We want you to be completely happy with your purchase so please read our terms of sale.
The past year has been an interesting and productive one. I was especially gratified by South Florida's enthusiastic response to our inventory of antique and semi-antique floor rugs. However, our lease has expired and circumstances beyond our control dictate that we re-locate the Gallery.
We are now in the process of finding another premier location in the Miami metropolitan area. Our web-site will keep you posted on progress in that respect.
In the meantime, you can still see our inventory in person at our interim Show Room at 1629 NE 1 st Avenue. The facility is large, well-lighted, comfortable and, of course, air conditioned.
The Show Room is open by appointment, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. |
